"Be the Match" Bone Marrow Drive

20120516-mcgrath-bethematch-10

Today was the second bone marrow drive for Jeremy McGrath's wife Kim at the Monster Energy Headquarters in Corona, CA. Kim was recently diagnosed with "Leukemia Cutis", which is Leukemia of the skin and will likely undergo a bone marrow transplant soon. Jeremy has taken to social media outlets in an effort to get more people registered as donors. The event was filled with friends and fans of the Motocross industry that were all willing to help "be the one to save a life." Joining the registry is a simple, and painless process - we truly have the power to save lives!

MX Adventures: Leaving the West Coast ... talking with Kevin Windham

{jvideo id=259 height=378 width=660 autoPlay=0}

Who dat?

This week I caught up with Kevin Windham. In the video below, Kevin Windham talks about the Superbowl Champions, the NFL's New Orleans Saints, his family, his future plans for racing and beyond.

The Superbowl XLIV champions, the New Orleans Saints, have many fans - among them is none other than the number 14 in Supercross, Kevin Windham. While the NFL season started when Supercross was in its off season, Kevin was able to take part in season tickets to his favorite NFL team - da' Saints. Eventually the 2010 Supercross season got underway in January, which meant Kevin was flying off after those Saturday night Main Events back East to watch the New Orleans Saints Playoff games.

On February 7, 2010 the New Orleans Saints headed to the Superbowl in Miami, Florida and Kevin Windham and his wife Dottie made arrangements to attend this momentous occasion. First, however Kevin had to finish up a Supercross race in San Diego the night before.

Effective Braking for Faster Cornering

Everyone can go fast by hold the throttle pinned on the straights, but it’s when it comes time to slow down that separates the pros from the amateurs.  Next time you are at your local track, watch the fast guys around the track; they are either on the gas or braking.  Slower riders tend to [...]

2012 Endurocross Opener in Las Vegas

Endurocross. It's something you have to see to fully appreciate. The opening round of the 2012 Endurocross series took place recently at the Orleans Hotel and Arena in Las Vegas. Below you'll find our photos and video from Round 1 in Las Vegas.

As always, the track design keeps improving and getting more and more difficult. This track had extreme obstacles, an 'over-under' bridge ... and the arena was sold out.

Endurocross is once again going to be part of ESPN's X Games Los Angeles this year, both men's and women's classes.

A personal message from Jeremy McGrath

Updated 2pm Pacific Time, Wednesday May 9th.

Hi Friends,

I am sending this message to let everybody know what is going on with my wife Kim and my family. As you may or may not know, about two years ago Kim was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She had a number of different surgery's, underwent chemotherapy for many months, and handled the processes like a true champion. Kim was feeling great.

Kim was 15 months removed from her last treatment, about a month ago she noticed a couple of small blotches on her skin. Due to her great instincts she went and got them biopsied. That biopsy came back as "Leukemia Cutis", which is Leukemia of the skin. Naturally we were blown to pieces by this news.

As I said, Kim was feeling great and due to her good instincts  we caught this in the Pre Leukemic stage. The bad part is the doctors have to treat "Leukemia Cutis" the same way as if you came in the hospital at the later stages of leukemia. Which sucks …

This means more chemo, she is currently in the hospital and has completed her seven days of chemo and they are saying a BONE MARROW transplant is next ... THIS IS WHERE ALL OF YOU GUYS COME IN … We really need your help with going and getting on the Bone Marrow registry, the idea is to find a Marrow match.

Its as easy as finding a Bone Marrow Drive and getting your mouth swabbed, or having the kit sent directly to you at your house, and you can send it back. I ask all of you to do this ASAP, this is something that is time sensitive. In order to help Kim, we have to be willing to help anybody, which is the right thing to do.

Go to http://marrow.org/Join/Join_Now/Join_Now.aspx?promo_code=mcgrath

This is the biggest challenge of my and my family's life ... You guys have never let me down, so PLEASE help us with this one … Thank you.

Sincerely,
Jeremy McGrath

The 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Season Celebration

This year's AMA Motocross Banquet & Season Celebration was held in a magnificent banquet room at the Pala Resort & Casino. The room was decorated beautifully, lined with motocross décor, as well as a stage decorated with the championship bikes and awards. The line-up of food, appetizers, desserts, and beverages was very elegant and delicious.

After dinner, the awards ceremony began. Jason Weigandt, along with Tim Cotter hosted the show. And of course Jason started it just like he does many of his shows - after slamming down an energy drink.

Jason went on to talk about each round of this summer's AMA Motocross Nationals, with a list of funny jokes pertaining to all the good and bad situations at each of the races. After that, the awards and trophies were handed out.

The night was filled with special memories, good times, and laughs. One poignant moment was when Kevin Windham accepted the award for 'Sportsperson of the Year'. Kevin always has a great way of expressing himself, but made a great comment towards his friend & the team manager, Mike LaRocco. He commented on Mike's motivation, that pushed Kevin to work hard and do his best ... it was touching, but at the same time very funny.

Behind the scenes: Team USA for 2010 Motocross of Nations - together for the first time

I was back out at Pala Raceway for something very special. I had already been there for four days for the Finale of the 2010 AMA MX season and the Awards Banquet.

But, as I mentioned, this was something special - the first official get together of Team USA for the 2010 Motocross of Nations. Team Manager Roger De Coster, racers Ryan Dungey, Andrew Short, Trey Canard, and all the support staff needed for an effort like this.

Ryan Dungey, Roger De Coster, Trey Canard, Andrew Short and Mitch Payton

I felt very privileged to be invited to such an event. I soon came to realize that the most unique and moving part of the day was seeing the look of real happiness, the feeling of true honor, and the comraderie for each person involved, as 'The Team' came together for the first time. It was contagious. They seem to be a real 'team' already, working together well, and have great things to say about each other. Again, it was contagious!
